Italy: new facts about Genoa murder reveal sinister intent
Workers Power Global, Milan

New evidence has come light which concerning the events surrounding the murder of Carlo Giuliani in Piazza Alimonda in Genoa on 20 July. Ballistics reports show that the two empty cartridges found near Carlo's body were not fired from the same gun.

Someone other than Mario Placanica, the carabiniere charged with the voluntary murder of Giuliani, fired that day in Piazza Alimonda.

French photographer Bruno Abile testifies to the fact that he saw a carabiniere officer fire more than one shot. He also says that this was contemporaneous with the death of Giuliani.

Only one bullet hit Carlo, and this has been found to have come from Placanica's gun. But what the new ballistics report suggests is that the whole case is still open.

Placanica, who has been weeping no small amount of crocodile tears to make it look good for himself, is far from a poor, young, one-year draftee who has unwillingly found himself in the thick of it; he is a conscious liar. He claims he fired the two shots, wheareas the new report shows that this was impossible.

Placanica is also lying about another fact. He testifies that he panicked in the heat of the moment. But photos of Carlo holding the fire extinguisher and running at the jeep have been shown to present Giuliani as much closer to the jeep than he actually was.

Placanica and the other two carabinieri on board were not under any immediate threat from Carlo, who was at least 3 metres away at the time he was shot.

Moreover, Carlo was hit below the eye by a good marksman (which Placanica boasts of being) who must have had both enough time and enough mental lucidity to take aim.

One of the demonstrators closest to the jeep swears that he heard a voice from the jeep saying: "Communist bastards, I'll kill the fucking lot of you".

Placanica's own testimony in fact shows that long before he shot Carlo he was pointing his gun at demonstrators. And by their own admission, on 20 July the carabinieri fired 8 shots in Corso Torino, 7 in Via Tolemaide and at least 3 in Piazza Alimonda.

Together with the distinctness of the two cartridges found near Giuliani's body, all this shows that Carlo's murder was not, as Placanica claims, "legitimate self-defence", but rather the outcome of a deliberate trigger-happy policy on the part of the carabineri murder machine which Placanica accepted and put into practice.
