These are the headlines on the website of the prestigious German news magazine Der Spiegel. Reuters likewise reported “Thousands of protesters successfully blocked delegates from accessing the G-8 venue at Heiligendamm on Wednesday.”
Reports on the Der Speigel, Indymedia and other websites and directly from League for the Fifth international and Revolution members participating make it clear that the blockading of the summit on its first full day was a tremendous success. Read more...

“We are all 129a!“ shouted more than 5000 demonstrators in the streets of Berlin yesterday evening. Paragraph 129 is the “anti-terrorist“ clause of the German Federal constitution, the Grundgesetz. On 9 May the Gereralbundesanwaltschaft (the general federal attorney) ordered about 1000 police to raid more than 40 left wing centres, bookshops and flats searching for “proof“ of the “formation of a terrorist organisation“ against the G8. The WASG (Arbeit und soziale Gerechtigkeit – Die Wahlalternative- Labour and Social Justice - The Electoral Alternative was) founded in 2005 by activists form the Social Democracy and various left groups. Together with the PDS, (Partei des Demokratischen Sozialismus), the lineal descendent of former ruling party in East Germany, it won 54 seats in last years parliamentary elections. European Social Forum Preparatory Assembly- the Left Organises

The largest delegations in Frankfurt came from Greece, France, Germany, Italy and Turkey. The attendance from Eastern Europe including Russia has also markedly increased. There were smaller, but active delegations from Austria, the Basque Country, Belgium, Denmark, Portugal and Sweden, plus a representative from Palestine.
