On the first day of the WTO meeting, demonstrators from all over South East Asia marched from Victoria Park to the prescribed demonstration strip. There were about five or six thousand demonstrators.
Groups included peasants, women, workers (in various trade union federations and confedrations), Taiwanese sex workers, and fisherfolks from S Korea, Philippines, Japan, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Taiwan and even Mongolia! Read more...

It was big: reports vary from 40,000 to 250,000; I think 100,000 minimum. We left Victoria Park with the start of the demonstration at 3:00pm, and by mobile phone accounts people were still leaving the park at 5:30. There wasn’t enough room at the final assembly point for the whole of the march to squeeze in. Read more...
