National Sections of the L5I:

More than 10.000 people march in solidarity with Gaza in Vienna

On 4 June a huge demonstration in solidarity with the Gaza and the Palestinian people took place in Vienna. The organisers even speak of 15.000 participants.

The demonstrations was in a militant mood chanting slogans like “Free, free Palestine”, “Israel – terrorist” or “In-ti-fa-da”.

The march was dominated by Turkish nationalist and religious organisations. Shamefully the Austrian workers movement was hardly present. The reason for this is the disgusting pro-Zionist position which traditionally dominates the social democratic organisations (including its left wing) and the Communist Party. Some left groups attended and marched at the end.

The League for Socialist Revolution (LSR, Austrian section of the LFI) and the youth organisation REVOLUTION fully mobilised for the demonstration. We had a massive and very well organised contingent with hundreds of mostly migrant youth and workers. Pictures from our contingent can be seen on our website here: www.sozialistische-revolution.org/phpwcms/index.php?id=20,833,0,0,1,0

We chanted militant slogans like “Free, free Palestine”, “Israel – terrorist” or “In-ti-fa-da”. But we also gave several short speeches to the contingent where we stressed the internationalist character of our protest and that also in Israel itself people protest against the state terrorists and that we are in solidarity with them. Then followed our slogan “Hoch die internationale Solidarität” (Long live international solidarity) which was picked up enthusiastically.

We distributed 500 LSR-leaflets in Turkish and sold the new issue of our monthly paper which has a focus on Palestine. All this was well received.

We look forward to continue our protests, to spread the ideas of internationalism, anti-imperialism and revolutionary socialism and to deepen our relations with the migrant community.
