No change at Cancun talks

MOST WORLD leaders have decided not to attend the Cop 16 climate summit that is currently taking place in Mexico.

A disastrous repeat of last year’s Copenhagen talks, which broke down last year is expected yet again.

The Copenhagen summit in Denmark was marred by even minor agreements turned down, as wealthier nations tried to shift the cost of dealing with carbon emissions on to global south countries.

This year, member states of the African Union are demanding $100 million as compensation for environmental damage carried out by countries such as the USA and Britain.

It’s time to build a climate movement from below, without relying on the same market systems that destroy environments around the world.
